Sim Local Nomad eSIM works on any eSIM-capable, carrier-unlocked phone. Common examples:
Tip: open Settings and look for "Add eSIM" or "Add cellular plan" to confirm your device supports eSIM. Your phone must also be carrier-unlocked.
You can buy on the Nomad website or in the iOS/Android app, paying by card, PayPal, Apple Pay or Google Pay, with multi-currency checkout so you can pay in your own currency. After purchase, the eSIM installs either via a QR code (delivered by email and shown in the app) or via one-tap installation inside the app itself โ no second device needed if you buy in-app. Note Nomad's own distinction between installation and activation: you can install the eSIM at home any time, but the plan's validity only starts once the eSIM connects to a supported network at your destination. If you run low on data mid-trip, you can buy an add-on that tops up the same eSIM without reinstalling anything.

Nomad plans on our comparison start at $2, and we currently track 1297 live Nomad plans across 185 countries. That range includes unlimited options for heavier users, so the best value depends on your destination and how much data you actually burn per day.
Every Nomad data plan purchase earns 25 points per $5 spent, and you redeem them at 100 points per $1 off a future plan on the app or website. Points expire after 6 months, so they reward regular travelers rather than one-off trips. Nomad's referral program adds to this: when a friend signs up with your code and buys their first plan, you both get $5 off.
Nomad separates installation from activation. You can install the eSIM days before your trip โ via one-tap install in the app or by scanning the QR code from your email โ and the plan's validity only begins once the eSIM connects to a supported network at your destination. Installing early at home on Wi-Fi is the setup Nomad itself recommends.
You must request a refund within 30 days of purchase. If the eSIM was never installed or activated, it may be fully refunded after support verifies it; after activation, only a partial refund for unused data is considered, and only when a network or technical failure can be verified. You can take the refund to your original payment method in 2-5 business days or as instant Nomad Points, and note that unlimited plans, UK Voice plans and certain specific products like the Europe Nomad Pass follow separate refund terms.
Yes โ Nomad sells add-ons that load extra data onto the eSIM you already installed, so there's no re-scanning or profile switching. Nomad plans generally support hotspot and tethering, but if you're on one of the unlimited plans, expect fair-use thresholds that can reduce speeds after heavy use.
