eSIM compatibility FAQ
How do I check if my phone supports eSIM?
On iPhone, open Settings, then Cellular or Mobile Service, and look for an "Add eSIM" option. On Android, open Settings, then Network or Connections, then SIM manager. You can also dial *#06# — if an EID number appears alongside the IMEI, your phone has an eSIM chip.
Does my iPhone support eSIM?
Every iPhone from the iPhone XR and XS (2018) onward supports eSIM, up to the iPhone 17 series. In the US, the iPhone 14 and newer are eSIM-only with no physical SIM tray. iPhones bought in mainland China do not support eSIM, and Hong Kong and Macau models usually do not either.
Do all Samsung and Google Pixel phones support eSIM?
Most do. Samsung Galaxy S20 and newer (plus Z Fold and Z Flip foldables, Note 20, and select A-series) support eSIM, as does every Google Pixel from the Pixel 3 onward. A few carrier or market variants disable eSIM, so check SIM Manager or Settings on your exact model.
Does my phone need to be unlocked to use a travel eSIM?
Yes. The phone must be carrier-unlocked. On iPhone, check Settings, General, About, Carrier Lock — "No SIM restrictions" means it is unlocked. On Android, confirm the unlock status with your carrier.
My phone brand says "region-dependent" — what does that mean?
For brands such as Xiaomi, Oppo, OnePlus, Honor, Huawei, Sony, Vivo and Nothing, eSIM is enabled only on certain market or firmware versions, often Global or EU models rather than Chinese or Hong Kong ones. Confirm eSIM in your phone settings and on the provider checkout page before buying.
Can I use a travel eSIM on an iPad or smartwatch?
Cellular iPads (not WiFi-only) support eSIM and most travel eSIMs. Smartwatches such as the Apple Watch and Galaxy Watch use eSIM too, but they normally need a carrier watch plan — most travel data eSIMs are designed for phones and tablets.
My exact model is not listed — does that mean it is incompatible?
Not necessarily. This list covers the most common device families. If your phone shows an "Add eSIM" option in settings and is carrier-unlocked, it can most likely use a travel eSIM. The provider checkout page is the final source of truth.
